Abstract

This article attempts to look at national stereotypes from theoretical and empirical perspectives. First, selected interpretations of the term stereotype are subjected to critical analysis, and then the terms auto- and heterostereotype are discussed. Afterwards, the paper presents the results of a Polish-German tandem project focused on a discussion about how Poles and Germans see themselves and how it compares to the way their neighbours from beyond the Oder River perceive them.
