Abstrakt

The theme of mourning in Mikhail Shiskhin’s prose

The theme of mourning belongs to the most essential motifs in Mikhail Shiskhin’s prose. It coexists with other parathanatological problems present in writer’s work, such as funeral and reflection on life after death.
As funeral opens the period of mourning, the first part of the article is dedicated to the characters’ reactions to burial. The second part of the present work concerns with internal life of selected female characters, who experience grief after a loss of the loved ones.
While Shiskhin’s characters are less engrossed in the funeral-related aspect of the problem, they tend to experience bereavement in a way, which is characteristic to melancholics. With the use of categories established by Jacques Derrida, the author demonstrates how female characters in Shiskhin’s prose conceal mourning by the act of incorporating the dead into their own bodies and allowing them their voice. At the same time, the action of writing letters grants the charactersthe ability to hinder or even deny bereavement, and through this, save the deceased from death.

Motyw żałoby w prozie Michaiła Szyszkina

Temat żałoby można uznać za jeden z najbardziej istotnych w prozie Michaiła Szyszkina. Współwystępuje on z innymi problemami paratanatologicznymi, takimi jak pogrzeb czy refleksja o egzystencji po śmierci.
Żałobę zapoczątkowuje pogrzeb, dlatego pierwsza część artykułu poświęcona jest reakcjom bohaterów, związanym z pochówkiem. Część druga dotyczy natomiast życia wewnętrznego wy­branych postaci kobiet doświadczających smutku po starcie bliskich.
Funeralny aspekt problemu mniej zajmuje postaci utworów Szyszkina. Żałobę po zmarłych przeżywają w sposób charakterystyczny dla melancholika. Posiłkując się ustaleniami Jacquesa Derridy, autorka dowodzi, że bohaterki prozy Szyszkina skrywają żałobę, inkorporując zmarłego we własne ciało i udzielając mu głosu, a także odmawiają jej poprzez akt pisania listów, które powstrzymują proces żałoby i są formą ocalenia zmarłych od śmierci.
