Volume 32 of Neerlandica Wratislaviensia edited by dr. Jan Urbaniak, is the realization of an idea under the motto "The Netherlands in the World", which has become a contribution to the discussion on the reception of the Netherlands in the broadest sense of the word (language, literature, culture) and in various fields of study. The publications in this volume come both from the circle of Polish native speakers and also from specialists from other disciplines of the Philological Faculty at the University of Wrocław (from the departments of Polish, German, classical philology, journalism and social communication). These publications, supplemented by articles by Dutch and Flemish authors, are an important contribution to the development of the study of Dutch. They illuminate Dutch from different perspectives and present a variety of academic fields and research methods. Volume 32 is a testament not only to the broad interest in the Low Countries among Polish experts, but also to the vitality of the department of the Dutch studies at the Wroclaw University which was able to gather such a wide range of renowned authors around the idea of "The Netherlands in the World”. The literary studies in volume 32 present a picture of Dutch literature from the Middle Ages to the present; the linguistic texts present Dutch in the context of Polish and other Germanic languages. An equally broad perspective emerges in the review articles: these range from the intricacies of language as a primary means of communication, through the medieval image of the devil to the role of writing in contemporary literature.
