Abstrakt

Principles of religious discourse in old-Polish polemical texts

In the 16th and 17th century, various religious discussions took place very often. Their forms were quite heterogeneous: theological tract, letter, biblical commentary and others. There were also public discussions. The notes that were made of these religious discussions contain not only the voices of speakers but also the principles that had to govern a discussion. These principles testify to the high level of the discussion culture of their makers. Both sides of a religious discussion had to have the same rights. A discussion had to concern only the problems announced before. The participants had to consider a matter on its merits. The other question is to what extent these principles were adhered in polemics at that time.
