When the heart sleeps. Oneiric semantics in the work of Hryhorii Skovoroda

An attempt to interpret a category of dream in the work of Hryhorii Skovoroda based on his prosaic piece Sleep as well as selected works from God’s garden songs has been presented in this article. Oneiric semantics is one of Baroque writer’s leitmotifs. The writer clarifies avision of human being who does not proceed in accordance with his own heart. He treats atemporal existence not as something transitional but gives it ameaning to fulfil his final desires. In the context of antinomy, mortal life, eternity and lust, aquestion of human freedom and his ability to make choices determinants of his life after death is also raised what in the work of Skovoroda is associated with the issue of sleep.
