Verbal idioms as the base for phraseological derivation in Polish and Serbian

The paper describes the functioning verbal idioms as abase for phraseological derivation of other verbal idioms in Polish and Serbian. Based on the research, it can be concluded that derivational processes which create anew phrasemes take place on the lexical and morphological plane. In the first case aphraseme’s structure can be extended or changed by some lexical element; in the second case astructure of a phraselogical base is modified by a suffix. In interphraseological derivation verbal idioms generally motivate stylistic and semanthic derivates, much less syntactic or tautological.
