Yes and no — don’t say, the black and the white — don’t name…

In the article resources of the modern Ukrainian indirect nomination are analysed, the reasons for the activization of this way of nomination and its role in language conceptualization and categorization of the world are defined. Based on the example of derivatives with preposition без and noun in the word-base, problems of typology and characterology of an indirect nomination in the Ukrainian and Polish are discussed. Special attention is given to the new word-formation means and forming of metaphoric meanings in indirect nominations.
