Verbs denoting asudden change of stateand the concept of the observer

Two categories of static verbs denoting configurations of objects are under discussion in the paper: A static verbs semantically derived from telic verbs: 1 Jan otacza / otoczył sad płotem ‘John is surrounding / has surrounded the garden with afence’ → 1a Płot otacza / otoczył sad ‘A fence surrounds / has surrounded the garden’; B static verbs semantically derived from motion verbs: 2 Samochód skręca / skręcił na prawo ‘The car is turning / has turned right’→ 2a Droga skręca / skręciła na prawo ‘The road is turning / has turned right’.
The question of aspectual meaning of such perfective configuration verbs as in 2a has been discussed in relation to the point of view of the Observer moving along the road. It has been shown that the postulated figure of the Observer may not be interpreted as acomponent of the meaning of the Slavic perfective aspect of motion verbs, but it is pragmatically motivated, appearing as a conversational implicature both by perfective and imperfective verbs in contexts describing linear directed movement.
