Ivan Franko in the lingual consciousness of modern Ukrainians: Specific modelling of paraphrases

Abstract

The article focuses on the fragment description of periphrasis to describe I. Franko. These fragment descriptions of periphrasis complement the Ukrainian national periphrasis fund. The periphrases on the surname Franko represent traditional forms, the examples and stamps of the Soviet epoch as well as neologisms among them. The periphrases created by I. Franko’s contem-poraries — his acquaintances, friends, disciples, form the stable layer. These periphrases reflect the authorʼs character traits, and indicate his importance. The metaphoric periphrases of a modern type are very interesting. These modern type periphrases represent a modern understanding of I. Franko as a personality, the perception of I. Franko through the prism of a new national con-sciousness. A number of periphrases have been modeled on the basis of actualization of a language game, which results in the tradition of the formation of contemporary postmodern texts.
