Abstract

The latest novel Citlivý člověk (2017) by Jáchym Topol, connects the motifs and themes al-ready present in the author’s previous novels. The key issue is, above all, the theme of death, which is no longer seen as an object of simple fascination, but of the inevitable need to confront these important life stages. The child archetype and the trickster archetype, which are important principles of human consciousness, are also remarkably represented in the novel. The first has constructive power, the second, deconstructive. The process of spiritual transformation requires the representation of both of these elements, because “creation”, whether it is initialized by demi-urge or an artist, depends on the relationship of uninterrupted emergence and extinction.
