Abstract

Metaphorization of event in Russian and Czech press

Based on the conceptual metaphor theory, the current text investigates metaphorical perception of a single event in contemporary Russian and Czech press. Examples are taken from the news paper coverage of May 2005 events 60th anniversary of the end of WWII and of the 2008 Olympic Games in Being. Essential correspondence in motivation is found out. Moreover, Russian press is concluded to be more active and intensive in metaphorization with respect to semantic and formal aspects – more diverse range of semantic motivation, original semantic shifts and more elaborate, developed metaphors are found out in Russian.
