M. M. Bakhtin’s heritage: Contours of integrity

Abstract

The main contours that determine the integrity of Bakhtin’s world are disclosed in the article through the interpretation of the development-change of Bakhtin’s themes and concepts . Particular attention is paid to the formulation of the problems of methodology by Bakhtin. The term “scientific existence” (“scientific personality”) is introduced. Bakhtin worked within the framework of “other science” (his term is from the work On the Methodology of the Humanities) and, in his later years (the third period of scientific creativity), post-scientificism. Non-scientific and post-scientific does not mean that the researcher brings something of his own into the studied text. But they imply such a multifaceted method that invariably refers to different contexts, including the personal context of the translator in his historicity. History with its changes and times, which everyone belongs to — this is the basis of historicity. The most important thing in Bakhtin is the whole history of his human and scientific existence, the history that he understood in the framework of dialogue in the world, which Bakhtin describes as the specific, responsible essence of man.
